Grenada

Grenada, the southernmost Sunsail charter base in the Caribbean, is an enchanting sailing destination celebrated for its clear waters, stunning white and black sand beaches, and reliable trade winds. Known as the “Spice Island,” Grenada offers a unique blend of natural beauty, from waterfalls and mountains to parks and rainforests. Where else can you find cinnamon trees growing by the roadside, pick leaves from bay laurel trees, or flavour your meals with fresh nutmeg straight from the source?

Our Sunsail charter base is located at the modern Port Louis Marina in the vibrant capital city of St. George. The marina provides full provisioning services, restaurants, bars, and duty-free shopping, along with 24-hour security, first-class washrooms, laundry facilities, and a swimming pool. Conveniently situated less than fifteen minutes from Maurice Bishop International Airport, the base is also close to the downtown market, several hotels, restaurants, and beautiful beaches.

The southern coast of Grenada is a year-round delight for sailors. Full-service marinas, chandleries, restaurants, beaches, and excellent snorkeling spots are all within easy reach of Prickly Bay and Mount Hartmann Bay. Beyond the island’s natural attractions, you’ll find historic forts, a chocolate plantation, and coastal towns brimming with restaurants, markets, and rum distilleries.

Sailing north from Grenada, your first stop is the charming island of Carriacou. Continue cruising to Union Island and clear into St. Vincent and the Grenadines, setting the course for the breathtaking Tobago Cays. This crown jewel of the eastern Caribbean features stunning coral reefs, islets, and beaches that will be the highlight of your vacation. You can further explore Mayreau, Mustique, Bequia, and many other islands, even reaching as far as St. Lucia. The variety of destinations ensures you’ll never run out of places to visit.

For the more adventurous, an overnight sail south will take you to Trinidad and Tobago, offering a distinct Caribbean experience. Trinidad is renowned for its cultural diversity, delectable cuisine, vibrant celebrations, and exceptional wildlife and bird watching.

Grenada is strategically positioned at the edge of the high hurricane-risk areas, making it a preferred haven for cruising sailors. Many full-time sailors choose Grenada and nearby Trinidad as safe havens, staying clear of storms. With the summer months dedicated to sailing, you can explore the Caribbean’s beauty with peace of mind, knowing your boat is safely outside most hurricane zones.

For those looking to experience a colourful Caribbean spectacle, Port Louis is an excellent place to stay during the annual Spicemas Carnival in August, known for its lively parades, music, and vibrant atmosphere.

Set sail with Sunsail from Grenada and immerse yourself in the island’s rich culture, natural wonders, and endless sailing opportunities.
