Spacious and Innovative Cockpit Design
The Sunsail 37.3 includes a bowsprit platform, large deck hatches, and hull windows, along with a thoughtfully laid-out outdoor space that allows easy movement on deck. The expansive cockpit is larger than those on other yachts of this size, emphasizing outdoor living. The interior is bathed in natural light, thanks to the large central hull windows.

This three-cabin version features a large bathroom, ample exterior storage, and three independent cabins, including a spacious owner’s suite at the front. At the end of the day, however, no matter what building methods have been employed or how many beds you’ve got, for me, on any sailboat, what matters most is simply the quality of the sailing experience. Otherwise, why buy a new sailboat? And I have to say, on that count, the Dufour 37 delivers big time.
You know it’s a good day when you come away from a sail pleasantly surprised as we did. Even in small gusts we stayed upright as the boat leaned on her hard chine to a max of only 18 degrees heel. The helm was light and so responsive that we had to tack more slowly and mindfully so we wouldn’t leave hockey sticks in the wake behind us.
The Dufour was quick to show her performance credentials, making between 5.8 and 6.3 knots at 35° to the apparent wind, proving nicely responsive and remaining light on the helm. Significantly, she was unfazed by the occasional steeper wave, answering my question about whether the full entry and beamy, flat-sectioned hull would make her prone to slamming in a seaway – or at least in 15 knots of wind against tide in the Solent. She punched her way through decisively and threw very little spray back to the cockpit.

Having sailed 40′, 45′, 47′, 50′ Leopard Catamarans a combined 3,500+ NM over the past two and a half years I strongly recommend them for performance oriented cruising. Additional positive experiences have come from owning and operating a 2021 Sunsail 454L based in BVIs now half way through the charter contract. Making use of the owners’ time has afforded amazing sailing internationally. There have been no unpleasant surprises and few concerns.
